Our youngest son is just 7, and he is so inquisitive and always asking questions.
So today was no different, but each time the questions get a little more probing.
“Mummy, why do you sit down to wee?”
We’ve had the conversation that boys are different to girls and how different they are but he still couldn’t get his head around why boys can’t sit down to wee.
I told him that girls are so busy and sometimes we don’t get to sit down during the day so, when we go to the loo, sometimes that’s the only chance we get to sit down.
He said “but boys are busy too, I explained that the boys spent longer pooping, so that made us even.
He smiled and went off on his little way.
A bit later, there’s a shout from the eldest one in the bathroom.
“Who was the last person to go to the loo?” She shouted. There were puddles of wee on the seat and the floor.
There were only 3 of us in the house at this point so it was easier to whittle this one down.
I’d not been, the eldest one was just about to go so that left the youngest one.
I looked at him and said “have you just been to the toilet? “
He proudly said “yes, why?”
I asked how and why he hadn’t lifted the seat up to go to the loo, he explained that he had been so busy helping me that he needed a sit down for a wee as he didn’t need too pop yet.
But he also needed the toilet so he literally killed two birds with one stone, whilst proceeding to cover the bathroom in wee!
I told him that boys just can’t sit down to wee, because they make a mess.
His face was confused, “how do I make a mess and you don’t” he asked.
I explained again that the anatomy of boys is different to girls, and we have to sit down.
He looked at me and declared “so girls wee out of their bum”
To save any more awkward questions I just said yes!
He looked at me like Dobby looked at Harry Potter when he gave him a sock.
You didn’t tell me that girls are magic. Having just one hole to wee and poop out of!
I will explain this to him one day, but for now he will truly believe that girls are magic and that’s just fine with me
