Today is Middle Prin’s Birthday, this was always going to challenge me on this Social Media break.
Why?
Because for the last 14 years, I have always shared my kid’s birthdays and special occasions with my friends and family, making posts with the cutest pictures and best message for them to wake up too.
Today was a little different because the socials are gone!
So how did we celebrate this special day, we decorated with Dinosaur banners, (that’s all the card shop had left), we sang Happy Birthday at least 3 times and we had a special tea, with birthday cake.
What we did before social media reminded us that it was someone’s birthday?
Well, we wrote those special dates on calendars, we made sure we called to say Happy Birthday, we even popped round with cards and gifts to celebrate their special days.
Today was filled with love, by us, some family, and her friends, not so many visits from family, or even texts, but this is what this break is teaching me. It’s a lesson to see who is really there and knows all the important occasions without being prompted by Insta or Facebook posts.
There was always a saying that stuck with me, my great grandad used to say it,
“If you have a family that loves you, a few good friends, food on your table and a roof over your head, then you are richer than you think.”
You should celebrate your special bond with the family you have and notice how they make your life instantly better. You then start to realize how stupid it is to think about the things that you don’t have instead of being grateful for what you do have – your family being the foremost one.
So today I’m grateful for my little/big family, I’m grateful for the family and friends that did text, sent cards and gifts, this has been the biggest eye opener and its only Day 4, God knows what the next 86 days will bring .
Keep those special ones close and don’t stress about anyone else
Much Love x
